Things I love about this season....  It kicks off the season of being nice.  Everyone, no matter their station during the Holidays is a bit nicer and happier.  They are hopeful and full of good cheer.  I like to think that it gets spread around and we rub off on each other.

Fall & Harvest makes me thankful for all the time spent in my garden growing up with my family!  It is a tradition I gladly pass on to my two kids and part of why we celebrate the way we do!  Thank you for joining us!

I try and take my kids each year to a local farm because we are not fortunate to live on one at this time.  Those visits remind me of all the time I spent in my big garden growing up.  I miss my garden.  I used to sit out in a field and pull the weeds that would seem to spring up everywhere. I would sit there and quiet my mind.   My dad would come out daily and ask, "How does your garden grow?"  I would answer not so much in the rhyme, but exclaim,  "With weeds you know? It grows with lots of weeds!" Sometimes we would sit on the back deck and eat snap peas off the vine and talk.  Other times we would just sit and eat them quietly.  It was the best.  Mom would join us and we would light the barbecue for grilling and then for just sitting around it after dinner.  It was like camping at home.   Hanging out in the garden with my parents was fun.  We put in a lot of hard work and then enjoyed the fruits of our labors.     I was so proud of the onions and tomatoes I grew there.too.  Mom and I put them up for soups, sauces and stews.  I loved that because winter was a great time for them.  It still is one of my favorite things to come home on cold days to stew cooking.  Even to this day there is nothing like my Mom's Stew!

Thanks Loretta for sending me this pic!

These two pumpkins had a very lovely glow!!

Your baskets will be ready soon!  Hope you all had a safe and
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Kicking Up Some Fun With Bergamot Boots! ~ 9/19/10

As most of you know....

Miss Emily & Buckey
My daughter has been taking horseback riding lessons.  She really enjoys her latest adventure and it has inspired my soap making into "Bergamot Boots!"  I love to put great words together and make products that knock the 'socks' off my clients.  It is my hope that my soap will make them spend more time relaxing in the bath!  So, kick off your boots and soothe your spirit head to toes!  This Citrus Bar was made for you!

Simple Pure Ingredients Make a Lovely Soap for your skin:

Saponified: Olea Europaea (Organic Olive) oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Organic Palm) kernel oil. Avena sativa (Organic Oat) ground meal, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit oil.

Bergamot essential oil ( Citrus bergamia )

Bergamot essential oil has antibacterial, deodorising, refreshing, soothing, and uplifting properties which make it excellent for body skincare preparations, for ensuring healthy and vital skin. Bergamot essential oil has a fresh, citrus and slightly spicy aroma and is powerfully refreshing, uplifting and invigorating and helps maintain a balanced mood. Dr Nicholas Monardes who wrote a book about the plants of America in 1569, named the plant Bergamot because the scent of its leaves resembled the Italian Bergamot Orange, Citrus Bergamia from which an essential oil is made. FCF at the end of Bergamot indicates that the furocoumarins (namely bergaptene) have been removed by steam distillation. Bergaptene free Bergamot (FCF) reduces the susceptibility to photosensitizing and is the preferred bergamot for safe use in massage blends and in perfumes.  Bergamot essential oil FCF originates from Sicily and is extracted by cold expression of the fruit peel.
The idea of taking my Olive & Palm Kernel Oil Oatmeal Soap Blend and adding Bergamot Essential oil was easy inspiration.  The olive oil I use in my soap I buy locally, but has been imported from Italy.  In the above research I found that Bergamot EO had originated from Sicily.  This began my wheels turning!  I'm sure those looking at me could see them turn! :)

Enjoy!
